If you walk into the Community Music Center soulful music fills your being till you feel the joy of utter bliss.
Founded in 1921, it is housed in a Victorian period building with all its age old charm. It is located in the Mission District of San Francisco with a branch in the Richmond District and extension programs throughout the city.
Its aim is to bring music to all who are interested whatever be the age, ethnic background and income. You can choose your instrument and type of music that you want to excel in. Various private and group lessons are available, focusing on different types of musical styles including jazz, western classical, Latin, and Chinese.
At the Community Music Center, students may take private lessons year- round in 29 instruments (including voice), sight singing, theory, and composition from a faculty of 128 professional musicians. Nine different musical styles are taught, including western classical, jazz, Chinese, and Latin
Age is no bar and it is never too late to learn. Students range from 8- 80. Their fees are reasonable. CMC focuses on serving low- income families. More than half their students use sliding scale fees, scholarships, work- study earnings and free group classes for their music studies. It hosts more than 200 low cost but enchanting concerts performed by professionals in CMC's 130- seat recital hall or in dozens of locations around San Francisco.
