A heaven for music lovers Clarion Music Center, situated in the midst of San Francisco Chinatown serves as the meeting place for music lovers. It is the place where musicians and non- musicians can explore sound, history and art of music.
The instruments are displayed in an attractive way that makes you yearn for music. There are more than 100 varieties of instruments from every continent; there are books, instructional videos and CDs for teachers and students.
Clarion took the road to success when owner Clara Hsu received an offer from the Captain of the Salvation Army Corps in Chinatown to take over a retail space in the basement of an old church.
Initially Clarion sold pianos, violin and Chinese traditional musical instruments. His collections of innovative instruments propelled his shop to world fame. The venue provided a space for world class musicians to play in front of an attentive audience.
The venue has borne a charmed life. Even three floods and a fire have failed to fade its sheen. Clarion helped launch the first San Francisco World Music Festival. It also presented many benefit events for world musicians and poets in the Bay Area and beyond.
