San Francisco Film Society

The San Francisco Film Society celebrates the art of cinema – the world's most powerful medium for entertainment. It performs the dual task of educating as well as entertaining. Their unique two- tiered school outreach program brings thousands of young viewers to the Festival and sends local and visiting filmmakers to Bay Area classrooms.

The school is dedicated to bring the best of international cinema to a new generation of movie lovers. Students are exposed to the art of film making as well as diverse cultures of other countries.

This creates a strong bond between the festival and the local educational community, providing students of all ages the opportunity to participate in the festive experience.

Besides regular screening of films, renowned film makers visit classrooms to explain their cinematic art. It offers festival tickets at a subsidized rate to over 4000 students and teachers.

This year the festival presents 200 films from over 50 countries. The prestigious Golden Gate Awards are bestowed on documentaries, shorts, animation, experimental, youth- produced and work for television.
