This fair celebrates one of San Francisco's most famous neighbourhoods – The Haight- Ashbury District. The annual street fair features arts and crafts, food booths, two musical stages and more, to entertain and divert you. The first Haight- Ashbury Street Fair was held on April 30, 1978. Since then there has been no looking back and it has become a major cultural event.

As the festival gets underway, the Haight- Ashbury area vibrates with life. Over 100,000 people spill into the streets in a festive mood and their hearts brimming with joy. The fair stretches along Haight St from Masonic to Stanyan St and the main entertainment takes place on two stages at either end of the site.

The two stages - Main Stage and Masonic Stage - hosts a variety of musical presentations that have featured such bands as the Jefferson Starship/Airplane, The Tubes, Metallica, and Noel Redding (Jimi Hendrix Experience) among others.

Between the stages are a wide array of booths selling almost everthing under the sun from sovenirs to local handicrafts. Music, plays, street performers entertain while a gay and colorful crowd throng the streets. The festival takes place in june.
