Those who are looking for fun can take part in an interesting contest. Greenwood Ridge Vineyards celebrates the California Wine Tasting Championships every year on the last weekend of July. The competition takes place in the Greenwood Ridge overlooking Anderson Valley in one of the most picturesque setting. Along with wine tasting, there are international chocolate tasting and cheese tasting contests and guided tours of the vineyards.
Novices, amateurs and professionals all can take part in this contest. Those who are involved with wine production, sale or writing are regarded as professionals. You can compete on your own, or double your chances of winning with a partner during the doubles event. Contestants must be at least 21 years of age. Each contestant will taste eight different wines and is given a time span of four minutes to identify the wine he has sipped by its name.
Tasters with scores in the top 50% will advance to the final round, in which they will taste and identify eight more wines. After the end of each round the correct answers will be revealed. First, second and third prizes will be awarded in all categories. A bonanza awaits those who have won the first place. They will be awarded certificates for dining or lodging at the following inns: Boonville Hotel, Griffin House, Elk Cove Inn, Greenwood Pier Inn, and Philo Pottery Inn.
