The Tonga Room and Hurricane Bar presents a fairy tale fantasy that is within your grasp. Located within SF's historic Fairmont Hotel, this bar promises to give you a real hurricane experience.
Entering the Tonga Room is like stepping into a happy- hour version of Disneyland's 'The Pirates of the Caribbean'. The lights are dimmed to highlight an array of tiki torches which encircle the central pool around which a raft known as the tiki boat floats with a live band ready to present you with top- 40 music chart busters. The tropical setting quakes with life with the sound of thunder while monsoon rains pouring from the ceiling, sprays you with its showers. Ritualistic masks, puffer fish hanging from the ceiling and grass huts shaped like giant beefeater transports you to the tropics.
It has been consistently awarded for serving 'San Francisco's Best Happy Hour' by San Francisco Magazine.
The food is as simple as it can get. You can go in for Pan- Asian flavors like peanut chicken satay, wok- fried chowmein, and roasted, five- spice duck.
The Togo Room offers drinks, dancing and a lovely warm atmosphere to relish your food. Their exclusive buffet of Pacific Rim delicacies like spare ribs, vegetable chowmin, pork buns, pot stickers, chicken drummettes, cheese, fresh fruits and crudités is worth is digging into.
