SFMOMA Museum

SFMOMA stands for San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and is a platform for showcasing contemporary 20th century art. It aims at encouraging and educating the visitors by conducting special programs of exhibitions, education, publications and collection activities.
Opened way back in 1935, the SFMOMA is the first museum on the west coast dedicated to contemporary art. Situated on third street, this 225,000- square- feet building is the second largest single structure in the United States devoted to modern art. The gallery is regarded as a rich source of art in their original form.
The Museum is located in San Francisco's downtown south of market area (SOMA) and is surrounded by residential and business structures as well as numerous other cultural institutions, including the Center for the Arts at Yerba Buena Gardens.
The education department at SFMOMA is known for arranging a variety of programs for people of all age groups. They also offer special exhibition related events like artist talks and lectures, tours for students, groups of adults and walk- in visitors.
The museum is housed in a two- storey space in the historic Fort Mason complex which is bathed in natural light. It offers a venue to support budding artists economically as well as giving them an opportunity to display their work.
Museum Hours: Monday – Tuesday 11:00 a.m. - 5:45 p.m.; Wednesday- closed; Thursday 11:00 a.m. - 8:45 p.m.; Friday – Sunday 11:00 a.m. - 5:45 p.m.
